Apology and Follow-Up Regarding Point Purchases
To all Renta! users outside of Japan,
Effective immediately, Renta! will no longer charge Japanese sales tax (8%) to our users outside of Japan when purchasing points or manga with cash at its English website (https://www.ebookrenta.com/).
As you may be aware, Renta! has both English site (https://www.ebookrenta.com/) and Japanese site (https://renta.papy.co.jp/). Japanese tax laws require us to charge Japanese sales tax when users in Japan purchase points or manga with cash at our Japanese site. We recently learned that we have mistakenly charged Japanese sales tax to Renta! users outside of Japan.
We understand the scale of the impact on our users and we are deeply sorry for our oversight.
We sincerely apologize for any inconveniences our oversight has caused our users outside of Japan.
All sales tax-related text and content on Renta! will be corrected immediately, and we will be returning the overcharged Japanese sales tax, plus 10% of the total overcharged tax, in the form of points, to all users who have purchased points or manga after July, 2017, the launch date of our English site.
You will receive these points if you:
・You used Renta! outside of Japan
・Have purchased points with a credit card after July, 2017
・Have purchased points via PayPal after July, 2017
・Have purchased a Renta! product with a credit card after July, 2017
We will start the refund process immediately following site-wide changes. It may take some time before you receive your points, and we thank you for your patience. The refund will appear in your Point History page (https://www.ebookrenta.com/renta/sc/frm/hist/) as "Overcharged Tax Refund."
