This has been a fun read through ch. 6. There is a nice (if not earth-shattering) twist in the old 'ghost in my house' story line. One star off for the author's multiple usage of the word 'pervert.' Gay sex is NOT perversion and I tire of seeing 'pervert' constantly appearing as if the creators can only copy each other's nonsense rather than writing original dialogue. IMO 'queer' is far less offensive and at least accurate even if used profanely. The artwork was enjoyable though somewhat spartan. A pleasant read and worth it at the lower expense.

This could've been delightful but it's a massive turn-off that the MC acts so disgusted by the gay sex he so clearly enjoys. "He's turned me into a pervert" the MC declares, taking zero responsibility for his side of the sexual relationship. I don't mind that MC was ten y.o. when he promised to marry his admirer ? the author creates an almost logical set-up for this engagement. The MC's sexual naïveté at twenty is hard to swallow though when his suitor returns to his life after ten years. The MC should be in heaven but he struggles stupidly despite his love of bottoming. Remove censorship, correct the attitude, would give a top rating. Upped from two to three stars because MC is very cute. Further chapters may improve the story and provide the hinted-at 'punishment.' I personally enjoy transgressive stories that explore more than vanilla sex. In addition the pretense that no one is sexual until after eighteen is tiresome and insulting, like the word 'pervert' as byword for 'gay.'

If you want the full story of these two, read “Silent Voice” first, then this volume. If you're only after the sexual hook-ups, this is where they happen. I'll repeat what I said in my review of the companion book, this author has terrific insight into how it feels as a young gay boy to love another boy fiercely while still coming to understand one's own heart. I enjoyed both volumes immensely, including the setting of baseball. I remember having to often hide my lap at baseball games, whether watching or playing, because the uniforms (and the lithe bodies inside them) were so unbearably sexy! Everyone was always a better player and better-looking, so I thought, and so I identify with this protagonist. High praise to this artist for a beautiful story arc. There's room for a third volume if you're listening…

This author captures beautifully the confusing ache as a young gay boy claws his way toward the object of his desire, learning to understand himself as he goes. There is always a lot of societal pressure against acknowledging sexuality before a certain “acceptable” age, but as someone who lusted after boys from my earliest memory, I want my stories told also. This volume is all about the love story. The companion volume, “Invisible Stars,” tells about the two teens navigating their sexual passion. The artist shows great insight into the confusion and the joy that both parties experience. I'd really like to see more titles like this on Renta! Love (and sex!) often bloom between two youngsters, or between older/younger pairs. It's reality and it should be reflected in our art and storytelling.
