Q1. OmaKiss seems to be your first series, where did the inspiration comes from?

A. The idea to write about office romance came from discussions with my editor. While working on the characters, I realized I wanted to draw about two people who are in love but keep missing each other, which shaped the general plot!
The details regarding Kou and Eito's relationship came together during the drafting stage of the first chapter, meaning I didn't have all the details pre-established. Instead, I developed the story little by little.

Q2. How do you determine a character's flaws and insecurities?

A. I determine them by creating a contrast with the characters' initial impressions. For instance, Kou might seem composed and aloof, but he is actually pretty emotional and sensitive, carrying past trauma.

Q3. How was Eito and Ueno like in school? What if they had met in university? How did you decide on Eito and Ueno's characters and designs?

A. I believe their personalities and lifestyles would have been even more different if they'd met earlier! Now that they're working adults, they've learned how to get along with different kinds of people, but back in college, it might have been harder for them. In that sense, the timing of their meeting was perfect!

Q4. Kobayashi is such a good guy. how is he single? I want to introduce him to my gay friends. Any chance we'll get to see him find love in the sequel?

A. Originally, Kobayashi was going to have a boyfriend who's a civil servant! But as I kept drawing him, I started to see a more carefree, laid-back side, and it felt more natural for him to be enjoying life as a single man... That's why he isn't in a relationship now.
Still, who knows—maybe my original plan will make its way into the story someday... or not...!?
